Desk Phone Keys

RingQ programs the keys on your desk phone for you. You choose what each key does on the extension's page in RingQ, and the phone picks up the keys the next time it restarts. This guide covers the key types you can add, the phone's own buttons, and the dial codes that work from any desk phone.

How keys reach your phone

Each row in the extension's Busy Lamp Fields (BLF) list becomes one programmable key on the phone, in order. Row 1 is key 2, row 2 is key 3, and so on. Key 1 always stays the phone's own line.

  1. Open Extensions in the RingQ web app and edit the extension used by the phone.
  2. In Busy Lamp Fields (BLF), add one row for each key. Pick the key type and enter its value.
  3. Save the extension.
  4. Reboot the phone from Auto Provisioning > IP Phones > Reboot, or restart it by hand. The phone loads its new keys when it starts.
  • To remove a key, delete its row and save. It is cleared from the phone on the next reboot.

Dial codes

You can dial these codes by hand from any desk phone registered to RingQ. Your administrator can turn some codes off, so if a code gives an error tone, check with them.

Finding your aux code numbers

Agent Status and Change Status keys dial *26 followed by the aux code's number. The number is the aux code's position in your Aux Codes list. For example, if Lunch is the second aux code, dial *262 to go on Lunch, then *261 to go back to the first one.

Change Status IN uses aux code 1 and OUT uses aux code 2. Aux codes are set per company, so check your Aux Codes list for the numbers that apply to you.

On Yealink, Fanvil and Grandstream phones, a parking key is a BLF key on the slot's code (*591 to *595). During a call it transfers the call to the slot. When idle it dials the slot to pick the call up.

Check your keys

After saving the keys and rebooting the phone, try each one:

  1. Press Message. You should hear your voicemail.
  2. Press DND. The phone shows DND, and the RingQ app shows DND too. Press it again to turn it off.
  3. During a call, press a parking key. The caller hears music and the key lights. Press it again to take the call back.
  4. Have someone call an extension that has a BLF key on your phone. While it rings, press that key to pick up.
  5. Press an Agent Status key. A short tone confirms it, and the wallboard shows your new status.

If a key does not appear or shows the old setting, reboot the phone again so it fetches its latest keys.
