Happy System Administrator Appreciation Day!

Dear SysAdmins,

Thank you for answering tickets like:

  • “The internet is down.” (Wi-Fi was off.)
  • “My computer won’t start.” (The monitor was off.)
  • “The printer hates me.” (It hates everyone.)
  • “I forgot my password.” (For the fifth time this week.)

You keep the servers alive, the networks connected, the backups running, and somehow resist replying “Did you Google it?” to every email.

You know it’s never just one quick change. Every 5-minute maintenance task becomes a 3-hour adventure, and every “Nothing changed” is the opening line of a disaster movie.

Let’s also take a moment to appreciate the greatest troubleshooting tool ever invented:

“Have you tried turning it off and on again?”

It has a higher success rate than motivational speeches.

Here’s to the heroes who:

  • Trust backups more than people.
  • Speak fluent DNS, DHCP, VoIP, and sarcasm.
  • Can identify a user problem before the ticket finishes loading.
  • Know that it’s always DNS… until it’s the printer.

Happy System Administrator Appreciation Day to the people who keep the company running while everyone else keeps unplugging things.

Now, if you’ll excuse them…

Someone just opened a Critical ticket: “Caps Lock is on.”
