WhatsApp Voice Calls with RingQ

WhatsApp Business calling for your phone system: with the RingQ WhatsApp calling integration (WhatsApp Business Platform, Cloud API), customers tap the call button in WhatsApp on your WhatsApp Business number and the call rings your RingQ extension, queue or IVR. Your team answers on the web app, the RingQ mobile app or a desk phone, with the normal cloud PBX features: transfer, call queues, call recording and call logs.

What you need

  • A WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API) account on Meta, with a phone number that is registered on the platform and has Calling enabled. Numbers used in the regular WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app cannot be used; they must be moved to the platform first.
  • From your Meta app: a permanent System User access token, the App secret (App settings > Basic), the Phone number ID (the long numeric ID in API Setup, not the phone number) and optionally the WhatsApp Business Account ID.
  • Your RingQ server reachable from the internet on its domain name, with TCP port 5061 (SIP over TLS) open and the RingQ media ports open. See the firewall ports guide.
  • Administrator access to your RingQ web app.

Set up WhatsApp calling

  1. In the RingQ web app, open Integrations and click the WhatsApp card, then open the Configure tab.
  2. Under Meta / WhatsApp credentials, paste the access token and app secret, enter the Phone number ID, the Business account ID (optional) and the WhatsApp Business number with the country code.
  3. Under RingQ routing, check the PBX domain and SIP port (usually 5061) and pick where WhatsApp calls should ring: an extension, a queue or an IVR.
  4. Click Configure gateway. RingQ saves the credentials encrypted, enables WhatsApp Calling and SIP mode on Meta, exchanges the SIP password, creates the gateway and the inbound route, and reloads RingQ Call Services. Each step is ticked off as it completes.
  5. Call your WhatsApp Business number from WhatsApp on any phone. The destination you chose rings.

Check the status

The Overview tab shows the gateway state, your WhatsApp number and where calls route. "Connection to Meta" shows Connected when RingQ is registered with Meta's calling service. If Meta refuses the registration, the card shows Not connected with the reason, for example Refused: Forbidden (403); run Configure gateway again to fetch a fresh SIP password.

Change the destination or move to another server

Open the Manage tab. Reconfigure for this PBX updates the Meta settings for the current server and lets you choose a different extension, queue or IVR without entering the Meta credentials again.

Switch WhatsApp calling off

On the Manage tab, click Deactivate WhatsApp gateway. This turns off SIP calling on Meta and removes the gateway and the route from RingQ. Your saved credentials are kept so you can configure again later.

Tips

  • WhatsApp calls use the Opus codec. RingQ adds it to your server automatically during setup.
  • Callers see your WhatsApp Business profile, so keep the business name and photo up to date in Meta Business Manager.
  • WhatsApp chat (messages) is set up separately under Digital Channels > WhatsApp Chat.
